Reuters: more than 1.13 million new cases of COVID-19 were detected in the United States per day

Over the past day, more than 1.13 million new cases of coronavirus infection have been identified in the United States, according to Reuters. Experts note that this figure has become a record daily increase since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic among all countries of the world.

The agency noted that not all American states have yet managed to publish data on the number of cases over the past day, therefore, the final number of people infected with COVID-19 will be even higher. The previous record was recorded on January 4: over one million people fell ill per day.

“While the omicron strain of COVID-19 is potentially less serious, health officials have warned that the sheer number of infections could lead to a crisis in hospitals, some of which have already suspended hospitalizations as hospitals struggle to cope with the increase in patient numbers and a shortage of staff”, writes Reuters.

It is also noted that the sharp number of cases of coronavirus infection has led to the disruption of schools, which are struggling with the lack of staff, teachers and bus drivers. Some states have canceled classes in educational institutions and suspended services on subway lines.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of the evening of January 10, more than 59.1 million cases of COVID-19 infection were registered in the United States during the pandemic. This is followed by India with 35.7 million cases and Brazil with 22.5 million cases. The United States also ranked first in the number of deaths: more than 830 thousand people died from the consequences of coronavirus infection in the United States.
