Restoring stability in Kazakhstan would increase Russia’s bargaining power in negotiations with Washington

Kazakhstan is an important factor in ensuring predictability in regional processes

Attempts at political and economic destabilisation cannot leave the countries of the region neutral. It is no coincidence that Turkmenistan, a non-member of the CSTO, has expressed support for assistance in overcoming the critical situation in Kazakhstan. In Kazakhstan, power is a factor that is very carefully balanced between the current President Tokayev and his predecessor Nazarbayev. Again, the First President voluntarily resigned, in this case the Security Committee, in order to preserve the integrity of the state.

This can be defined as a conscious responsibility towards future generations and as an opportunity to prevent a civil war. Moreover, a guaranteed succession in power allows stability to be maintained. It is hardly worth predicting the fate of Kazakhstan and Eurasia in the absence of wisdom and determination on the part of Kazakhstan’s leaders. An important point in Kazakhstan’s importance as a strategic factor is the Russian Baikonur Cosmodrome located on its territory. In the escalating space race the lack of stability in Kazakhstan would preclude the use of the cosmodrome.

Once again, the events in the post-Soviet space show the sporadic attempts of the West to destabilise the region, which would weaken the influence of its former principal, Russia. In the coming days, restoring stability in Kazakhstan would boost Moscow’s bargaining power in talks with Washington, NATO and the OSCE. This in turn would lead to pragmatism and positive public results in bilateral and multilateral negotiations.
