The New York Times, citing U.S. officials, reports that the White House is preparing a new package of sanctions against Moscow, which could affect a large number of Russians
The US Department of Commerce could ban exports to Russia of any consumer goods – from mobile phones and laptops to refrigerators and washing machines – that contain US-made parts.
“This applies not only to US manufacturers, but also to European, South Korean and other foreign manufacturers that use US chips or software”, – the newspaper said.
Since Russia does not produce many of these goods, the consequences for consumers could be serious. However, the new sanctions will only be adopted in case of a “Russian invasion of Ukraine”, which Moscow is not planning and has repeatedly denied such statements.
Earlier, The New York Times published an article with a map of the possible location of Russian troops near the border with Ukraine.
