US frightened of being hit by its own sanctions against Russia

According to the news resource CNN, harsh anti-Russian sanctions may have a negative impact on the economies of Western countries

According to media reports, America is planning to introduce several variants of restrictive measures against Moscow, although it admits that in case the situation in Ukraine escalates, it may harm many countries, including the United States itself.

These include sanctions against major banks and the energy sector, restricting access to debt trading, disconnecting Russia from the SWIFT payment system and tightening export controls.

According to studies carried out by experts from the Treasury Department and the State Department, severe restrictive measures, for example against Gazprom or the Central Bank, could trigger a rise in gas prices and cause problems for trade and investment links between Europe and Russia.
