Tokayev says Kazakhstan is dealing with foreign bandits

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, said that the republic was facing a terrorist attack.

“Kazakhstan is dealing with foreign bandits […] We are being urged to hold peace talks. What nonsense. What kind of negotiations can there be with the murderers? Terrorists must be destroyed. And we will do it”, Tokayev said during the briefing.

The President of Kazakhstan noted that the CSTO peacekeeping contingent arrived in the republic for a short time. In addition, Tokayev expressed gratitude to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who, in his words, “responded quickly and in a comradely manner to the request for help.”

As previously reported by News Front, the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) decided to send peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan in connection with the appeal of President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.

Let us remind you that protest actions in Kazakhstan began in the first days of January. Residents of some cities in the Mangistau region took to the rallies, demanding lower prices for oil gas, which many use as fuel for cars. On January 4, authorities announced their readiness to comply with protesters’ demands and lower fuel prices, but protests continued with renewed vigor in other cities across the country.
