The death toll of security officials in Alma-Ata rose to 13. The commandant’s office of the Kazakh city reported that two of them were beheaded, RIA Novosti reports.
“Thirteen law enforcement officers were killed, including two bodies were found with their heads cut off,” a source told the agency.
According to him, the Kazakh authorities regarded this crime as “direct evidence of the terrorist and extremist nature of the bandit formations that attacked Alma-Ata.” Earlier it was reported that more than 350 people were injured during the protests.
It should be reminded that in the first days of January, protest actions began in Kazakhstan: the protesters demanded that the prices for liquefied gas be reduced. It is noteworthy that after the government of the republic agreed to fulfill the demands of the protesters, the rallies did not stop, but continued with renewed vigor. According to experts, the organizers of the actions have undergone serious training abroad.
As previously reported by News Front, the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) decided to send peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan in connection with an appeal by President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev. Political scientist Yevgeny Satanovsky noted that events in Kazakhstan are not unfolding according to the scenario of the organizers of the protests, who did not expect that the CSTO would come to the aid of the republic.
