Tiberio Graziani, European geopolitical analyst and president of the Institute of the Graduate School of Geopolitics and Applied Sciences, assessed the current protests in Kazakhstan.
“The recent protests in Kazakhstan, although they fit into the context of internal social conflict over rising gas prices, could — if manipulated from the outside — create a critical situation for the stability of the entire Central Asian region,” the expert told News Front.
He also believes that such an opportunity, which was highly praised by President Tokayev, who not only promptly took vigorous measures, but also prepared channels for dialogue with the rebels, should clearly be avoided. Apart from the Kazakh presidency, the two main regional players, Russia and China, are well aware of this.
It is likely that President Tokayev, after the first moment of harshness, will meet the demands of the protesters, both in order to contain discontent and in order to send a political signal to the entire population within the framework of the formula that characterizes his presidency – the formula of listening state, Graziani notes.
“The exacerbation of protests and their escalation into the so-called ‘color revolutions’ is what Western pressure groups want, which contribute to the definition of the so-called humanitarian policy with the aim of destabilizing entire regions of the planet. This desire permeates the entire narrative of this watch just on the example of Kazakhstani protests”, the political scientist concluded.
Earlier News Front spoke about the decision of the CSTO to send a peacekeeping contingent to Kazakhstan.
