More than 1 million people infected with the coronavirus have been identified in the US in a 24-hour period
More than 1 million people in the US have been identified as infected with the coronavirus in the past 24 hours amid the spread of the omicron strain, the figures were the highest since the pandemic began, Bloomberg reports.
The previous anti-record was set at the end of December when there were about 590 thousand cases.
It is noteworthy that the figures may not reflect the true number of cases because many Americans have taken coronavirus tests at home and have not reported the results to the agencies that keep statistics. The rise in the incidence of COVID-19 in the US in December has led to cancelled flights, school and office closures, overcrowded hospitals and disrupted logistics.
The United States is at the top of the COVID-19 incidence list. More than 56 million cases of the coronavirus have been recorded there and more than 820,000 people have died.
At the end of December, US President Joe Biden said that the “Omicron” strain had been found even in the White House.
