Bulgarian literary critic and publicist Panko Anchev shared his opinion that it has already become obvious that the “end of history” proclaimed only by the winners of the so-called “cold war” is being cancelled
After the collapse of the USSR, which was presented as “a celebration of the triumph of liberalism, Western democracy and European values”, it was believed that only America and NATO countries could watch over humanity. Liberals saw themselves as the victors of communism, Russia and Slavism; they believed that henceforth their ideology would prevail throughout the world. Over the past thirty years, however, this world, renamed “global”, “liberal”, “Euro-Atlantic”, has seen the “end of history” revoked and filled with an entirely different content and meaning.
The balance of power began to change, and the East, together with Russia, Slavs and Orthodoxy, rose up and declared that its new future was coming. Russia and China, India, Iran, Brazil, South Africa have all grown economically and militarily, showing the West and America that their time is running out and other countries are determined to define the world order.
Now the rose-coloured glasses have fallen from the eyes of America and the NATO countries and they have seen that their dominance is coming to an end. Without realising their collapse, they still continue to impose their point of view and arguments on how everyone else should live.
At this point there are enough signs to show that there has been a major and profound change in the public consciousness, leading to the overcoming of liberalism and the adjustment of some of the great powers to other principles and political ideas.
This was possible after the apparent decline of the West and America as a result of the crisis of capitalism. Today the balance of power in the world is changing more and more. It can now be said to be dominated not by its current hegemons, but by Russia and the East.
The recent talks between Putin and Biden bear witness to this. The tone of Russian diplomacy has changed dramatically, with the Russian leader publicly stating in a meeting with Russian military commanders that Russia will no longer tolerate dictatorship – because it has its own vital interests and principles which it will not allow anyone to violate or take away.
America accepts what Putin is saying and agrees with it, reclaiming the “zones of influence” that were seized by the US at the end of the century.
New world realities require new thinking and behaviour from the Bulgarian state. A new “end of history” is coming soon, and new zones, circles, politico-military alliances and loyal allies will be formed in accordance with its new ideas, values and way of social organisation. The world is preparing for a new time, where those state formations that are already aware of the nature of the future and are preparing for it will have the advantage.
