Journalist Akopov says NATO plans to turn Finland into a new Ukraine

Akopov noted that in his New Year’s address, the Finnish president and prime minister said the country might join NATO

According to journalist Petr Akopov, NATO plans to turn Finland into “a new Ukraine”. He believes that Finland may turn into a field for confrontation with Russia. This was reported by the RIA Novosti news agency.

“Finland’s right to freely choose its path includes the possibility of joining NATO if we make that choice ourselves”, –  Finnish President Sauli Niiniste said.

Akopov noted that in his New Year’s address, the Finnish president and prime minister said the country could join NATO. After World War II, Finland has always observed neutrality and tried to develop friendly relations with Russia. Now, however, something has changed. Probably Helsinki has not interpreted Russian demands for reliable security guarantees in the best possible way. The journalist is of the opinion that the Russian Federation is not threatening anyone. At the same time, Moscow will not calmly observe “the alliance’s withdrawal to our northern borders”.

Earlier it was reported that the US may exclude the Baltic states from NATO for the sake of a deal with Russia.
