Talks between the Russian Federation and the United States will take place on January 10, as previously planned.
This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Izvestia reports. The diplomats noted that there is no alternative date for this conversation.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the talks will be held in Geneva in the format of interdepartmental delegations of Russia and the United States. The Russian group will be chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
According to Zakharova, the Americans will be represented by First Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman. She is known as a rather tough negotiator and the diplomatic department expects that the dialogue will be tense.
It should be noted that the talks in Geneva will be only the first round. On January 12, a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council will take place, and a day later Russian representatives will hold a meeting with the OSCE. The main topic of all upcoming conversations will be the project on security guarantees that Moscow has proposed to Washington and the North Atlantic Alliance.
