The specialized prosecutor’s office of the Joint Forces announced an investigation into the death of a contract soldier who served in the part of the Donetsk region controlled by Ukraine.
“On December 28, 2021, the Mariupol specialized prosecutor’s office in the military and defense sphere of the joint forces received information about the discovery of a contract military serviceman, born in 1985, born in 1985, without signs of life,” the department said.
The prosecutor’s office established that the senior operator of the anti-tank squad of the fire support company of one of the military units, while on alert, committed suicide by shooting in the head with a standard weapon entrusted to him at the place of military service.
“On the fact of the death of a serviceman, the Mariupol special prosecutor’s office in the military and defense sphere of the joint forces carries out procedural guidance in criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine marked “suicide”. Other versions are also being considered, including premeditated murder, driving to suicide and violation of the rules for handling weapons”, the prosecutor’s office stressed.
