The Orion attack drone successfully destroyed autonomous target helicopters produced by the Tekhnodinamika holding of the Rostec state corporation during testing of a new model of ammunition, TASS writes.
“The use of the new weapon was practiced by the Orion strike drone. According to the scenario of the exercises, the helicopter must break through to the military airfield, and the Orion, in the absence of other air defense systems, must detect and destroy it”, Tekhnodinamika said.
It is noted that the tests involved unique unmanned helicopter simulator targets (VM-V) produced by the Dinamika center. The general director of the holding Igor Nasenkov stressed that this type of air target simulator entered service with the Aerospace Forces only a year ago, but more than once managed to show its importance, helping “to practice practical actions to detect and eliminate a simulated air enemy.”
The Russian unmanned aerial vehicle of medium-altitude long duration of flight “Orion” was developed by the company “Kronstadt”. The UAV can carry four air-to-ground missiles. The cruising speed of the vehicle can reach 200 km / h, the maximum flight altitude is 7.5 km.
