The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, in an interview with the newspaper Die Welt, said that Brussels is considering the possibility of creating a military advisory and training mission in Ukraine.
“We are thinking about an EU military advisory and training mission in Ukraine, during which European military instructors could train the leadership of the Ukrainian army,” Borrell said.
According to him, the European representatives “already on the spot assessed what exactly the Armed Forces of Ukraine need and how exactly the European Union can help them.” Borrell added that he intends to submit a proposal to the EU states soon.
“We are expanding mutual trade and intensifying our economic relations. In addition, for example, on the penultimate week I made a decision to support the Ukrainian army with an additional 31 million euros. Thus, it is supposed to improve the logistics capabilities and the ability to combat cyber attacks”, said the European official.
Borrell stressed that the intelligence services of the EU and the United States are considering all possible scenarios for the development of the situation around Ukraine. According to him, at the moment it is impossible to exclude a “military invasion” of Russia into Ukrainian territory.
Recall that in recent months, a number of Western media regularly publish materials that Russia is allegedly preparing to conduct a full-scale “attack” on Ukrainian territory. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov called such reports “empty and unfounded.”
The Kremlin spokesman stressed that Moscow moves the army exclusively within its territory and does not threaten anyone. However, according to Peskov, Kiev’s attempts to resolve the crisis in southeastern Ukraine by force will have “the most serious consequences.”
