Poppel: the West has no right to pass a moral judgment on Lukashenko

In recent months we have been witnessing a hate campaign against the president of Belarus in the Western media

After the attempted colour revolution and coup d’état were thwarted, they have moved on to an information war.
Lukashenko is constantly presented to us in the media as a horrible dictator who not only oppresses his own people, but also threatens Europe by fleeing refugees.

Austrian analyst Patrick Poppel calls Lukashenko “Europe’s last statesman”.

“The Western media constantly presents us with this politician as a monster. However, I advise you to see Lukashenko as a person again”, –  Poppel said.

The choice of words in the media is frightening, he said. This is no way to behave with a statesman. Lukashenko had good reasons for all his actions, and he does not need to justify them to the West.

Moreover, there is something absurd in this attitude towards an Eastern European statesman.

While in many European countries people go from one isolation to another, and in some states they even have to explain the reasons why they want to leave home, Lukashenka does not limit people’s personal freedoms.

“The current attitude towards constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights in the West leads me to the conclusion that politicians in the West have no right to pass moral judgment on Lukashenko. Even during the pandemic, Lukashenko proved that he is a true statesman who defends the rights of citizens. But we can no longer say that about many governments in Europe”, – says Poppel
