US calls for new sanctions against Russia

The United States and European countries should introduce new sanctions restrictions against the Russian Federation as soon as possible, said former US State Department envoy for Ukraine Kurt Volcker in his article on the website of the Center for European Policy Analysis.

Volcker recalled that earlier Washington and its allies imposed sanctions against Russia only after Moscow “did something bad.” In his opinion, the United States should take preventive measures to “prevent aggression in Ukraine.”

“The trend should change – the West should introduce new sanctions right now and agree to lift them only if Russia refuses military escalation,” RIA Novosti quoted Volcker as saying.

Recently, Western media have been circulating information that Russia is allegedly going to “attack” the territory of Ukraine, therefore it is pulling troops to the Ukrainian borders. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stressed that Moscow moves the military exclusively on its territory and does not threaten anyone.
