“From 20 to 26 December, 177,230 cases of infection were confirmed in Russia, which is 10.4% less than in the previous week. Fewer cases in the country were last detected in the period from September 27 to October 3”, the agency reports.

It is also noted that the incidence rate, taking into account the population size, decreased from 19.3 to 17.3 cases per day per 100 thousand inhabitants – a minimum since October 6. According to TASS, the prevalence rate of COVID-19 over seven days decreased from 0.96 to 0.93.

“Mortality due to coronavirus in Russia also continues to decline: if from December 13 to December 19, the headquarters registered 7,720 deaths, then from December 20 to 26 – 7,015, or 9.1% less. In the past three days, less than a thousand deaths per day have been recorded in the country”, says the data of the federal operational headquarters.

Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, said earlier that vaccination with the Russian drug Sputnik V and booster immunization with a nasal vaccine could provide protection not only against the severe form of COVID-19, but also against coronavirus infection.
