Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if NATO and the United States refused to give Moscow security guarantees, the Kremlin’s reaction could be “very different.”
“It can be very different. It depends on the proposals that our military experts will make to me”, the Russian leader said on the air of the Russia-1 TV channel.
Putin stressed that the Russian Federation is striving to achieve positive results of the negotiations and expressed the hope that Moscow will be able to achieve “a diplomatic negotiation result, legally enshrined” with the United States and the North Atlantic Alliance.
Earlier, the Russian leader noted that Moscow’s further actions would depend not on the course of negotiations on security guarantees with the United States, but on the unconditional provision of Russia’s security “today and for a historical perspective.”
Recall that on December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry handed over to the United States draft agreements with the United States on security guarantees, as well as agreements on security measures for the Russian Federation and the member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced his intention to convene the NATO-Russia Council on 12 January.
