The General Assembly approved the annual budget of the United Nations (UN) for 2022, the total amount of which exceeded three billion dollars, writes EurAsia Daily.
“The General Assembly has approved a large number of draft resolutions and decisions submitted by the main committees, including the recommendation to approve the 2022 budget of $ 3.12 billion,” the organization’s press office said.
Experts note that the budget for the coming year is lower than it was in 2021: then it amounted to $3.231 billion. The regular budget supports UN activities in a number of areas, including political affairs, international justice and law, regional development cooperation, human rights and humanitarian affairs, and public information.
Earlier, Iran and the Central African Republic lost their voting rights in the UN General Assembly due to non-payment of regular contributions to the budget for two years. According to the charter of the United Nations, the country can return the right to vote in the event that the payment is delayed due to reasons beyond the control of the state. Also, the right to vote is returned to the country after the debt has been eliminated.
