The border guards of the Sumy region announced that they plan to strengthen the “especially vulnerable” sections of the state border with Russia with the help of anti-transport ditches.
“In particular, the construction of the Ukrainian-Russian section of the state border with anti-transport ditches continues on the section of the Sumy border detachment,” the State Border Service of Ukraine said.
The ministry added that “today’s security challenges force to continue working, despite a significant drop in temperature.” According to Ukrainian border guards, earlier the season of the engineering arrangement of the border lasted until the onset of winter, but at present the work has not been suspended in the “threatening directions”.
“The work is being performed by an integrated mechanized engineering group. Employees use special equipment and, in addition to existing obstacles, dig a ditch and fill a shaft, which, in the opinion of the border guards, will become an additional obstacle for those wishing to illegally cross the state border”, the State Border Service emphasized.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said that Kiev is changing the strategy for arranging state borders. Since the beginning of November, the Ukrainian authorities have allocated 21 million hryvnia (about 800 thousand dollars) for the construction of fortification structures.
