Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov commented on the accusations from the US Trade Representative Catherine Price, who said that import substitution in the Russian Federation allegedly violates the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Earlier it became known that Price made a report in which she accused Russia of violating its obligations to the WTO and expanding state control over the economy. According to her, Moscow has moved away from “the fundamental principles of the World Trade Organization, such as non-discriminatory practices, more open trade, predictability, transparency and fair competition.”
Pushkov noted that against the background of information about the possible introduction of a new package of sanctions against Russia by the United States, the accusation of the Russian Federation in violation of the WTO rules “looks especially comical.”
“On the contrary, in the context of widespread Western sanctions against Russia, such measures are very reasonable. If we talk about “norms”, then the unilateral US economic sanctions not approved by the UN, and not only against Russia, are in themselves a gross violation of all norms of international law. Therefore, it is not for the American trade representative to make judgments on this matter”, Pushkov said in his Telegram channel.
According to the senator, Russia does not intend to abandon the current economic policy, which is the only way to maintain both the economic and political sovereignty of the country.
