President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that in 2022 Kiev should receive a clear prospect of membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, RIA Novosti reports.
“We strive to unblock the peace process in Donbass as soon as possible, return Crimea, achieve membership in the European Union in the coming years and get a very clear time horizon from NATO, very specific,” the Ukrainian president said during the conference “Diplomacy 30. Strategy of the Strong state”.
Recall that in 2014, the Verkhovna Rada amended two laws of Ukraine, completely abandoning the country’s non-aligned status. In 2019, Kiev adopted amendments to the Constitution, securing in the basic law the state’s course towards the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that at the moment there is no communication in the North Atlantic Alliance regarding the possible entry of Ukraine into the organization. According to experts, Kiev will not be able to become a NATO member within the next twenty years.
