Naftogaz wants to prevent the launch of Nord Stream-2

The head of Naftogaz Ukrainy, Yuriy Vitrenko, said that Kiev has developed a plan for further steps, the main goal of which is to try to prevent the launch of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2.

“We have a plan for further legal steps to prevent the launch of this Russian gas pipeline,” Vitrenko wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, the Kiev authorities are making every effort to prevent the launch of Nord Stream 2. Vitrenko added that allegedly thanks to the actions of Kiev, “it was possible to postpone the completion of this pipeline for more than a year.”

Russia has repeatedly stated that the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline is an exclusively commercial project and is being implemented jointly with partners from Europe. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stressed that Moscow has never used energy resources as an instrument of pressure.

Nord Stream-2 was built from the shores of Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea. The total capacity of the pipeline is about 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Currently, the certification process for Nord Stream-2 is temporarily suspended, as the regulator demanded that Nord Sream-2 AG establish a subsidiary in Germany and file a new application on its behalf in accordance with European legislation.
