The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed on a 40-month financial aid program for Moldova within the framework of the expanded credit facility (ECF), which implies the allocation of $590.6 million to Chisinau.
“The approval of these requests makes it possible to allocate about 84.4 million dollars. The total envisaged amount of funds allocated within the 40-month ECF / EFF program will amount to about 590.6 million”, the IMF press service said.
To receive a new package of financial assistance, Moldova will have to fulfill a number of conditions set by the West: guarantee the independence of the central bank, strengthen the fight against corruption in the republic, increase the predictability of state policy and strengthen financial institutions.
Earlier it was reported that the US Department of State plans to allocate more than three million dollars for programs to develop the skills of Moldovans to “critically evaluate” the content distributed in the Moldovan media and through social networks operating in the country, as well as to support “qualified organizations”.
