India deployed the first S-400 battery in the western part of the country

According to ANI, India has deployed the first battery of the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system in the western state of Punjab, which borders Pakistan.

“The first S-400 battery is deployed in the Punjab sector. This air defense system will be capable of repelling air threats from both Pakistan and China”, the agency writes.

Earlier, Indian Deputy Foreign Minister Harsh Shringla said that Russia had begun deliveries of the S-400 Triumph missile system. For the first time, New Delhi announced its intention to acquire Russian air defense systems back in 2015. The contract for the supply of five regimental S-400 complexes was signed during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India in October 2018.

The contract for the purchase of the Triumph air defense system has caused serious discontent in the United States, which has traditionally begun to threaten the use of sanctions against countries that acquire Russian weapons and military equipment, in accordance with the 2017 CAATSA law “On Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions.”

S-400 Triumph is a Russian long and medium-range anti-aircraft missile system. The air defense system is designed to destroy all modern and promising aerospace attack weapons, including hypersonic ones.
