Ukrainian Security Council general says Ukraine is an endurer

Former head of the Ukrainian Security Council Investigation Department, General Vasily Vovk, described Ukraine in relations with Russia and the West as “an endurer”.

“The West and the United States are straining us, while Russia is straining America and Europe. And Ukraine, as a possible future theater of military operations, is generally tolerant,” he said on the Nash TV channel.

According to him, there is no threat of an attack from Russia, and Ukraine itself will not join NATO.

“We should have realized long ago that they would not take us to NATO. Neither I, nor many young people will live to see the time when they will take us to NATO,” Vovk added.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in December 2014 amended two laws, abandoning the non-aligned status of the state. In February 2019, the Rada adopted amendments to the constitution, securing the country’s course towards the EU and NATO. Ukraine became the sixth state to receive the status of a partner of the Enhanced Opportunity Alliance.

Recently, there has been talk in the West that Russia is preparing an “invasion” of Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied these statements, emphasizing that it does not threaten anyone, and that the movement of troops on Russian territory should not bother anyone. As noted in the Kremlin, such attacks are used as an excuse to place more military equipment and NATO forces on the Russian borders.
