Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow allows a positive development in further relations with the United States, if Washington meets halfway on security guarantees.
“If they meet our requirements halfway and start negotiations on two draft agreements that they have, I think we will move in this direction,” Ryabkov said.
Recently Russia published draft treaties with the United States and NATO, which include, in particular, provisions on mutual guarantees of security in Europe, on the non-deployment of intermediate and shorter-range missiles in each other’s reach and refusal from further NATO expansion to the east, including for account of the former republics of the USSR.
The documents have already been transferred to Washington and its allies. One of the points of the project is proposed that NATO provide guarantees of non-expansion of the alliance into the territory of Ukraine. As Ryabkov previously told RIA Novosti, if NATO and the United States do not respond to Russia’s demand for security guarantees, this could lead to a new round of confrontation.
Earlier we reported that Lithuania is ready to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine. However, it is not specified what kind of weapons can be transferred to Ukraine.
