The initial reaction to Russia’s proposals for strategic stability from American and NATO officials is clear: something can be discussed, but generally unacceptable
More than predictable. They would then have to curtail all work on strangling Russia militarily, leaving only agitation, propaganda, recruitment, espionage and, at worst, sabotage to achieve this goal. That is, to go back to the 50-60s. The time of the unforgettable Major Pronin and his British counterpart, James Bond… And this despite the fact that in terms of a possible head-on collision with Moscow, taking into account new technology, there is no way to avoid a little bloodshed. Powers will be sacrificed or something…
Well, I wonder what will be the official response from the western side and our superiors’ reaction to it. There should be one, right? They do not make such proposals in order to go there quietly and with sadness on their faces. They will not understand it – and a lot. We should not overestimate the depth of our people’s love for their bosses after all they, the people, have witnessed for the past 30 years. So, if they are simply offered one more time to wipe their hands with their desires… They will surely send us away. The last thing Biden needs after Afghanistan is to retreat to the starting point in Europe. Republicans and Trump will not forgive him and the Democrats. And all American foreign policy is known to be no more than a reflection of domestic policy.
It’s a damned curious situation. It could end up in anything. And since no one has any special leverage over Russia, or even in conjunction with China… It is about time that the US organised a new cold war on two fronts. Especially since they are equally sour with the Turks, Arabs, Iranians and Pakistan in the Middle East. India is certainly not a support for them in a fight with China, and they have nothing against us at all. France is so grateful to the Americans for everything that it has recently received from them in terms of its share in the global arms market… As to FRG, I wonder what gratitude Germans will get from America for the impending winter, given the fact that mere “Nord Stream – 2” does not touch anybody in Russia in the slightest degree: “Gazprom has only benefited – and greatly – from the explosive rise in gas prices in Europe.
The strong US position in Eastern Europe (except for Belarus and Hungary, which is acting pragmatically and this is only to their advantage) is great, of course. But it makes no sense for Biden to go to war over Ukraine, Poland, the Baltics and Georgia with Romania and the Czech Republic either. It’s one thing to prise them against Russia and, oddly enough, China (the Ukraine and Lithuania case is very telling here). Rhetoric and military exercises, assault and onslaught, NATO bases and strongholds, some money and weapons and a lot of promises to boost self-esteem – understandable. But to go to war in earnest?! And if those proposals made by Russia are not accepted, it means just such a development. And it looks like the US will have to make one choice or another. And then it will be as it will be. Of course it is a pity about those countries. The people.
