Any discussion of security guarantees should take place exclusively in the framework of a bilateral meeting between the United States and Russia
This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, the Izvestiya newspaper has reported, citing his conversation with TASS. The diplomat said that expanding the format of the meeting would render it meaningless.
“We suggest talks on a bilateral basis with the United States. If we involve other countries, we will simply drown it all in debates and verbiage,” Ryabkov said.
He has already announced that Moscow has formed a team that is ready to negotiate with the U.S. on security guarantees. Now it is up to Washington to decide on the composition of the delegation.
Earlier, News Front reported that the Russian deputy foreign minister regretted that the United States was not ready to abandon the set scenario with regard to Russia. It does not allow relations to move to a level where disagreements will be resolved and ties will develop.
Furthermore, Ryabkov stressed that Russia is always ready for negotiations with the Americans. They can take place on the territory of any third state at any time convenient for Washington.
