Record gas price will leave Ukraine without bread

One of Ukraine’s traditionally successful industries – bakeries – is under threat. They may suffer serious losses due to rising gas prices

This was reported by the Izvestiya newspaper, citing the Economic Truth portal. The journalists learned from their sources that the bakery industry association has appealed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The businessmen asked him to provide “preferential” gas for the stable operation of bakeries.

The association includes more than 85 enterprises. They pointed out that rising gas prices, raw material and other essential costs are causing manufacturers to lose money. This year’s record price hike has been passed, with an almost tenfold increase. The cost of one thousand cubic metres of gas in January will reach 52 thousand hryvnias.

Entrepreneurs have noticed that many of them are already operating at best “at zero”. In January the situation will worsen and many will not have enough money to pay their employees’ salaries. At the same time, they cannot raise prices as they are fixed by contracts with retailers for a certain period of time.
