The root cause of the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border is caused by the actions of Western countries, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said in an interview with Newsweek magazine
“You are absolutely right to try to understand the root causes of the crisis on the Belarusian border. The root cause of this situation is the attempts of the Western countries, including the U.S., to impose their vision of democracy on the whole world”, – TASS quoted the diplomat.
According to him, such activities of the United States and its partners over the past few decades have led to a number of regional conflicts. As a result, we have witnessed a sharp deterioration of the security situation in the Middle East and North Africa, economic decline and massive migration flows, Antonov added.
“Unfortunately, the West has not fulfilled its promises to restore war-torn states and return people to normal life. That is why Belarus has become a transition point for refugees. It was not Minsk’s fault”, – said the diplomat.
Antonov stressed that at the moment the lives of thousands of ordinary people seeking asylum in Europe are in danger. In his opinion, the situation must be resolved by providing the necessary assistance in accordance with international humanitarian law.
“The West needs to abandon the language of sanctions and threats against Belarus and stop making accusations on political grounds. Not to mention the fact that the organizers of transportation of people from the Middle East are in Europe. We believe that the only way out is a constructive dialogue with Minsk on the issue”, – Antonov concluded.
