Germans criticised German vice-chancellor’s statement on Nord Stream 2

Readers of the German political magazine Focus have harshly criticized the words of German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck, who called the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline a “geopolitical mistake”

Earlier Habek said in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper that Russia’s Nord Stream-2 pipeline was allegedly a mistake from the geopolitical point of view. According to him, the launch of the pipeline largely depends on Russia’s further actions towards Ukraine.

Readers of Focus stressed that the vice-chancellor’s statement was shameful and had nothing to do with diplomacy. German citizens also urged to think first of all about the people of the country and not about the geopolitical situation.

“Great! We’ll certainly punish Putin well with a crowd of freezing Germans!”

“This reminds me of kindergarten. If you take my car away, I’ll break down your lego house. That will certainly impress Putin! Help what we elected.”

“Habek should be honest and admit that there is no way around buying gas from Russia and that Ukraine is simply spoilt by the revenues from the transit of the fuel.”

One commentator pointed out that Nord Stream 2 had already been built and was a purely economic project in which Germany had invested billions of euros.

The Nord Stream 2 pipeline is built from the Russian coast to Germany via the Baltic Sea. The pipeline has a total capacity of about 55 billion cubic metres of gas per year. The Nord Stream 2 certification process has now been temporarily suspended as the regulator has required Nord Stream 2 AG to establish a subsidiary in Germany and submit a new application on its behalf in accordance with European law.
