Polish border guard asked for political asylum in Belarus

The serviceman, who was guarding the border with Belarus from Poland, appealed to Minsk with a request to grant him political asylum in the republic. This was announced by the State Border Committee of Belarus.

“In connection with disagreement with the ongoing policy of Poland regarding the migration crisis and the practice of inhumane treatment of refugees, the serviceman asked for political asylum in Belarus,” the ministry said.

The State Border Committee clarified that on December 16, a man born in 1996 was stopped near the section of the border controlled by the Belarusian group. He announced that he was a serviceman of the 11th Masurian artillery regiment of the 16th Pomeranian mechanized division named after King Casimir. This military unit of the Polish Armed Forces was deployed to provide security on the Polish-Belarusian border.

It should be reminded that the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border escalated in early November. Several thousand migrants from the countries of the Middle East and Africa gathered near the Polish border to enter the territory of the European Union. Earlier it was reported that the Belarusian border guards found the body of a crippled refugee, who was thrown into the border area by the Lithuanian military.

According to the Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel, the security situation in Belarus should always be viewed in the context of the deployment of the North Atlantic Alliance against Russia.
