Kiev refused to return the assets of the USSR to pay off the debt to Russia

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry speaker Oleg Nikolenko called Russia’s claims “unfounded”. This is transmitted by FAN.

According to a representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the 1991 Agreement on Succession on External Public Debt should regulate the distribution of assets of the former USSR. The document says that Kiev owns 16.34% of the property of the collapsed Soviet Union.

It is known that earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled the payment of the debt of all the former Soviet republics, in return hoping to receive foreign property of these countries.

For three decades, Moscow has been paying the debts of its former allies, in return receiving anti-Russian sentiments and a destructive attitude towards politics from its neighbors. This is the opinion of the political scientist Yuri Yakor.

“Will Ukraine give us anything? The answer is obvious. No, in the 90s they didn’t demanded – now it’s too late. But within the framework of an ideological war, who should do what and who should do what. It would be nice to at least knock out the existing debts from the post-Soviet countries, so that later you do not have to remind them. But I don’t believe even that”, the expert says.

Acting in the best traditions, Ukraine has not yet approved the long-standing agreement with Russia on the “zero option”. While the debts of the Soviet Union were dragged by only Moscow, no one in Kiev thought about fulfilling the obligations.

“And as soon as Moscow paid off, they started shouting in Kiev:“ Who asked you? Now return our share of the Diamond Fund, the Gold Fund, Sberbank and other all-Union property. ” Unfortunately, in Ukraine, such behavior was and is still considered “diplomacy”, said Vladimir Kornilov, political commentator for the Rossiya Segodnya news agency.

Earlier, News Front talked about how Ukrainian politicians complain about the degradation of Independent after the collapse of the USSR.
