Russia is pulling warships from the Baltic to the Black Sea
The Russian Defence Ministry has announced its intention to transfer four ships from the Baltic to the Black Sea Fleet. Alexei Leonkov, director of the magazine Arsenal of the Fatherland and a military expert, described possible reasons for the decision.
“In the event of war, the combat strength of any fleet may decrease, so it will need to be reinforced with ships and submarines from other fleets. This needs to be practiced in practice. “There is a practice of long-distance cruises that train the crews of ships and submarines well, such as the ‘Syrian Express’ – regular trips of Russian landing ships to Syria”, – Leonkov explained.
The military expert also noted that NATO’s activity in the Black Sea region, among other things, could have led to the Russian Defence Ministry’s decision to strengthen the defence capability of the fleet.
“There is a tense situation in and around the Black Sea and in Ukraine. It should be noted that the forces of our Southern Military District are enough to solve any local problem, including those of the Black Sea Fleet. The probable enemy by default is some countries that are members of the NATO bloc. However, we do not mark them during exercises, unlike the Alliance countries, which name Russia as a probable enemy during exercises”, – Leonkov concludes.
News Front earlier reported that the US destroyer USS Arleigh Burke had completed a joint operation with its NATO partners in the Black Sea.
