Hypocrisy, chaos, corruption: an American publication assessed Zelensky’s policies

The US newspaper The Washington Times has accused Zelensky of unscrupulous “anti-oligarch policies” that are hurting the country’s economy and bypassing the president’s “patrons and sponsors”

According to the author of the article, because of “discontent and resentment”, Zelensky has launched a powerful campaign against Akhmetov, with the help of another, which is throwing the country’s economy into chaos and not helping to meet demands for changes to the state system. In addition, the timing for internal conflicts was extremely bad.

“The authorities have not stockpiled coal for power plants and the country is threatened by power outages. If it were not for the purchase of coal abroad by Akhmetov’s company DTEK, Ukraine would have already experienced an energy collapse”, –  the weekly said.

At the same time, The Washington Times drew attention to Kolomoyskyy’s role in the political crisis in Ukraine.

“The recently adopted ‘resource’ law on taxation of mining did not affect the extraction of manganese ores controlled by Ihor Kolomoyskyy, but the tax on the extraction of iron ore controlled by Rinat Akhmetov has increased”, –  the author of the piece said.

He recalled how Secretary of State Anthony Blinken openly stated that “Kolomoyskyy’s actions aimed at undermining Ukraine’s democratic processes and institutions… pose a serious threat to its future”.

Against this backdrop, the journalist expressed concern about US support for the Ukrainian regime, as “everything the state touches <…> is corrupt, incompetent, suffering losses and not producing the necessary products”.

“If Vladimir Zelensky continues to push through hypocritical laws that are bogus, his policies will obstruct necessary reforms. Worse, he could plunge the country into a regional conflict requiring US and European intervention. The US authorities should pay attention to this before it is too late”, –  the author concluded.
