US author The Hill has claimed that the new German government saved Ukraine from Russia’s “attack” and “traffic light” made it difficult to launch Nord Stream 2″
Journalist Paul Gregory notes that under the previous government Berlin facilitated the construction of the pipeline: even US President Joe Biden could not resist Angela Merkel’s will and decided to drop further sanctions against the project.
Nord Stream 2 was supposed to start operation after approval by the German Federal Agency and subsequent withdrawal from the European Commission. But the appointment of Annalena Berbock, leader of the Green Party and an opponent of the Russian pipeline, to the post of foreign minister has changed things significantly.
“And here is the bombshell: in a speech on national television on Sunday, Berbock declared that Nord Stream 2″ cannot be launched because, according to coalition agreements, the submarine pipeline does not comply with the European energy law”, – the author said, stressing that the issue was about the principles of unbundling, transparency and capacity sharing.
