Establishing distance between ships and aircraft will prevent dangerous approach – Russian ambassador to Britain

Russian ambassador to Britain Andrey Kelin has said that the Russian Federation and some NATO countries, including Britain, have improved agreements affecting the danger of ships approaching each other

“One of the key proposals that we have fixed in the statement of December 10 is just to provide, firstly, for the separation of maneuvers from the Russia-NATO dividing line, so that they do not take place close, and secondly, the establishment of distance between ships and military aircraft, so that they are not dangerously approached”, –  Kelin said.

The ambassador explained that Russia has recently held additional military-to-military talks with some countries, including the UK, and these agreements, quite old, they have been improved.

“I know that these proposals have now been taken up – about setting a minimum approach distance and giving appropriate signals to prevent the kind of spark that could slip, that could become a provocation. We see perfectly well what is happening over the Black Sea, flights of NATO aircraft have really become frequent there, and God forbid, they may come in contact with courses of civil vessels, civil ships,” – concluded the diplomat.
