The White House is not interested in helping Kiev because it intends to move Ukraine closer to the negotiation process with Russia, a former employee of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in the US, Andriy Telizhenko, said
“They want to move Russia and Ukraine to some solution, to negotiations. Conditionally, to have the Normandy format and other platforms, but for Kiev to solve its own problems. No one wants to get involved in the situation in Donbass, to be honest,” the diplomat said in a conversation with Vesti.ua.
According to Telizhenko, the United States has been working out its position for a long time: in the end Washington decided to focus on Taiwan instead of Donbass. The West’s strategy and policy at the moment is aimed at containing China, the diplomat added.
“Putin wanted guarantees from the West that there would not be an issue on Ukraine. These are the first calls. They used to talk about it non-publicly. Back in 2014, when I was an advisor to the deputy prime minister, we were told that no one would fight for Ukraine, it was not profitable for them to start World War III. So now there is a compromise between the Russian Federation and the US”, – Telizhenko summed up.
