Russia unveils flight model of Okhotnik attack drone

Novosibirsk Aviation Plant (NAP) named after V.P. Chkalov has unveiled the first flight sample of Russia’s latest S-70 Hunter attack drone (UAV)

“The roll-out of the UAV marks the completion of the assembly of the product as a whole, equipping it with all the necessary on-board equipment in accordance with the requirements for flying vehicles, and the transition to comprehensive ground testing in preparation for the first flight”, –  Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said.

The official said that the main feature of the new Okhotnik is the flat engine nozzle, which makes it possible to significantly reduce the radar visibility of the UAV. According to UAC director general Yury Slyusar, the development of strike drones represents one of the key directions of Sukhoi and the United Aircraft Corporation.

“As of today, the complex is already quite seriously ready for serial production. I would like to add that in the near future we will already conclude a serial contract for the delivery of these machines [S-70 Hunter drones]. These vehicles are still test vehicles, but within six months we will conclude a serial contract ahead of the delivery of these drones”, –  Krivoruchko added.

The C-70 Hunter drone is made using stealth technology, which allows it to remain invisible to the intended enemy. The take-off weight of the vehicle is up to 20 tonnes, its maximum flight speed is about 1,000 km/h.
