Nice country, but cold: American on his decision to emigrate to Russia

A citizen of the United States was finally disappointed in his country and decided to move to “cold and beautiful Russia”. Readers of the Reddit forum shared their opinion about the country

“I’m an American and seriously thinking about moving to Russia […] I’m thinking about studying Russian in Yakutsk, and then with a degree to move to Novosibirsk and write a doctorate there”, – wrote a user of the network.

A commenter nicknamed Beefsweater warned him that it’s “not just cold in Yakutsk, it’s very, very cold. According to him, it is significantly colder in this part of Russia than in Canada, which means one should buy “a coat like the Arctic explorers”. The reader also pointed out the high level of education in the Russian Federation, and suggested that would-be emigrants first take Russian language courses for foreigners, so they could adapt faster in the new country.

“It’s very cold in Yakutsk, but the city is wonderful! Try to get a visa and live for a while before you make a final decision”, –  advises AK47gender.

“Welcome! I’ll tell you what. Just keep in mind: as long as you behave like a human being, no one in Russia cares about your nationality and race. But as soon as you become an animal, everyone starts asking what kind of culture it is and where only such people come from”, –  noted WorldForTroops.

“You’ve just listed all the things I love about Russia! I’ve been trying to settle in America for too long, but it didn’t work out – it’s just not my thing. Life is cheaper, people are simpler and easier to understand, it’s a beautiful country”,-  thinks tzu_tzu_flower.

However, there were also those who were categorically against moving to Russia. In their view, the winter in Russia is too different from the American one, so it is extremely difficult to endure. A user nicknamed Fatch0deBoi34 shared the story of his trip to Moscow, during which he “came down with a fever, because the winter from Colorado and Russia weren’t even close”.
