US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has said Washington intends to prevent a rivalry with China from escalating into a full-fledged conflict, the consequences of which could prove disastrous for both countries
“US President Joe Biden told Chinese President Xi Jinping last month: we share a sense of deep responsibility to ensure that the rivalry between our countries does not escalate into conflict. We take that responsibility with the utmost seriousness”, – Blinken said during a visit to Jakarta.
According to the US Secretary of State, the consequences of a conflict between the United States and China “could be catastrophic”. Recall that in recent months, the White House has accused Beijing of increased military activity around Taiwan. Notably, on an official level, Washington recognises a unified China policy but maintains extensive ties with Taiwan.
Chinese Defence Minister Wei Fenghe at a working meeting with Russian Military Chief Sergei Shoigu said that the US is taking the same aggressive military action against China as it does against Russia, hence both countries must jointly confront Washington.
