“We must be patient”: Peskov on the certification of Nord Stream-2

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov urged not to rush and show patience with the certification procedure for the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.

“The work continues with the regulator. The company complies with all the requirements of the regulator. Here you just need to be patient. This is such a technical, bureaucratic and legal work”, Peskov told reporters.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 could not yet be launched due to inconsistency with EU norms.

“The Federal Grid Agency has suspended the certification process, because there are clear provisions of European energy law regarding unbundling and other issues of the device (company),” she explained.

The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline with a total capacity of about 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year has been built from the shores of Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea. The United States actively opposed the construction of the pipeline, as it wants to supply its own liquefied gas to Europe. However, later, Washington admitted that the construction of Nord Stream-2 could not be stopped.
