US Congress announces its readiness to begin work on new sanctions against Russia

The leadership of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives of the US Congress has expressed its readiness to impose new sanctions against Moscow in the event of an “invasion” of Russian forces into the territory of Ukraine, CNN reports.

Democrat Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Gregory Meeks and Republican Michael McCall noted that “Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity enjoy unwavering support in the US Congress.” Also, representatives of the Congress made a proposal to send additional military aid to Kiev.

“We are ready to work with the administration and with our transatlantic allies to contain further Russian aggression against Ukraine, including by imposing serious new sanctions on Russia if it continues to invade Ukraine,” the politicians said.

According to Francis Semp, geopolitical expert of the American Spectator magazine, the White House is not at all interested in the independence of Ukraine and does not intend to send its military contingent to defend Kiev. The analyst stressed that Washington can send military equipment and weapons to Ukraine, but “American guys should not fight and die for the independence” of this country.
