The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has claimed an alleged “threatening approach to its neighbours” by Russia
Also during a joint press conference with Germany’s new Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Brussels, the politician said that the EU would not limit itself to sanctions alone in case of Russian “invasion” of Ukraine, and would resort to tightening existing ones.
The EC’s press office said.
“We expect Russia to de-escalate the conflict and refrain from any aggression against its neighbours and to respect the rights of sovereign states. Otherwise, the EU is prepared not only to tighten existing sanctions, but also to take important new measures in other areas, from the economy to finance. We always consult carefully with our partners before taking each step”, – von der Leyen said.
