UN General Assembly adopts resolution against ‘militarisation of Crimea’

The UN General Assembly has approved a resolution against the “militarization of Crimea” and on the issue of supporting the “Crimea Platform” format, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said

“I am grateful to all UN member states who supported the document. It consolidates international support for the ‘Crimea Platform’ and its goals, counteracts the growing militarization of Crimea, sends a deterrent signal amid the Russian military build-up along our border and in Crimea”, –  Kuleba said on Twitter.

We shall remind you that the Crimean platform was held on 23 August 2021. With the help of this format Kiev is trying to promote its claims to the peninsula. The Ukrainian authorities claim that the forum should become a platform “for coordinating international efforts aimed at returning Crimea to Ukraine”.

Crimea returned to the Russian Federation following a referendum held in 2014. Despite the fact that the vote was held in compliance with all necessary international norms, Kiev continues to consider the peninsula its own, but “temporarily occupied” territory.
