United States President Joe Biden has again talked about NATO’s eastward expansion. In particular, he spoke about moving additional forces into eastern Europe
He discussed the topic with the leaders of the “Budapest Nine” countries, which form the “eastern flank” of the North Atlantic Alliance. The Strana.ua news and analysis website reported about this, referring to Estonian President Alar Karis. His country is also a member of the alliance. He spoke to the ERR portal and told reporters about his conversation with Biden.
“Biden stressed that it was difficult to understand from his phone conversation what Russia’s actual plans were. It was important to show that every step is followed by a reciprocal step. Biden also stressed: there are levers – economic, financial, if necessary – military. If necessary, additional troops will be redeployed to NATO countries, but it is the decision of the NATO countries where they will be deployed”, – the Estonian president said.
Karis said he understood from Biden’s words that he is prepared, if necessary, to send more troops to the east. He also promised them protection in case of any threat. It seems to be the way the head of the Baltic state was alluding to “Russian aggression” – the favourite danger of NATO.
