Serbia and Rosatom signed an agreement to establish a Nuclear Technology Center

The Serbian government has signed an agreement with Rosatom on the construction of a Center for Research on Peaceful Atomic Energy, RIA Novosti reports.

“The Serbian government and the Rosatom state corporation have signed a general framework agreement on the construction of the Nuclear Technology Center and an agreement on the establishment of a joint venture that will implement this project on the territory of the Republic of Serbia,” said Nenad Popovic, Minister for Innovation and Technological Development of Serbia.

The Minister stressed that the signing of the agreement on the establishment of the Center for Peaceful Atomic Research was a historic event in the relations between Serbia and Russia. According to him, such agreements “return Serbia to the map of European countries that have opportunities for research in the field of nuclear technology.”

“This will increase the possibilities of Serbia in medicine, science, research, there are already applications from the countries of the region, together with our scientists, to use the capabilities of this center,” Popovic said.

The future center will be used for the production of radioisotopes for medical and industrial purposes, doped silicon for industry, as well as for the provision of services for the determination of the composition of ore, minerals and environmental samples.
