Bundestag urged to lift EU sanctions against Belarus

Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany party Waldemar Gerdt said that the sanctions restrictions on Minsk do not benefit the European Union, writes EurAsia Daily.

“If we look at it pragmatically, even from our own political doctrine, what we are doing now with Belarus is not profitable for us in any case. We are one civilization. We have the same genetic code. But if we continue to behave like this, then our brothers, our neighbors will work with the Chinese. So we will remain an unnecessary seedy province. Why are you doing it? Who benefits from this?” he said.

According to the politician, “overseas friends” want to sow hotbeds of tension on the European continent. Gerdt noted that the new German chancellor will not have enough leverage to ensure that the EU “leaves Belarus alone and let it develop as it sees fit.”

Germany, like other countries of the European Union, does not recognize the legitimacy of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. Berlin insists on strengthening sanctions against Minsk, and also accuses the authorities of the republic of violating human rights and creating a migration crisis on the European borders.
