After talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, US President Joe Biden decided to discuss the internal Ukrainian crisis with the leaders of the Bucharest Nine countries, writes the U.S. News.
“Biden will have a telephone conversation with the leaders of the Bucharest Nine, our NATO allies on the eastern flank, to brief them on his conversation with President Putin, hear their views on the current security situation, and underline the United States’s commitment to transatlantic security,” in the message of the press pool of the White House.
The Bucharest Nine includes Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Czech Republic and Estonia. The main goal of the creation of the Nine was to unite efforts for a “strong, reliable, balanced military presence of the North Atlantic Alliance in the region.”
According to Nikolai Petro, professor of political science at the University of Rhode Island, the main mistake of the White House is that Washington is not interested in the development of Ukraine and uses it only to “contain” Russia.
